Our Way

Every organization has a particular culture or way things are done within their leadership structure. We want you to be able to see what is expected of our staff and leaders with what we call “The Hill City Way.”

We are a team.

As people come together, it becomes immediately apparent that each person has their own style, preference, and personality. Becoming a cohesive unit requires each person to know their role, and relentlessly work towards a common goal and vision. As a staff member or leader at our church, we value this important statement: We are a team.

Building a team requires responsibilities and challenges yet creates amazing possibilities. Since we want to be one cohesive team, it is important that we all agree on some key values.

We will be learners

We won’t ever “arrive” and need to constantly be looking for ways to improve. One big way we will learn is through an evaluation process. Part of how we will be evaluated is looking at how we are trying to learn. Attending conferences, reading books, seeking mentors, and listening to podcasts are just a few of the ways we stay on a constant learning trajectory. We continue to learn through the action of building teams, working through strengths and weaknesses, seeking feedback from team members, and by always checking that we are adhering and striving to maintain our staff culture values.

We will take care of our health

It’s simple: if we have bad health, we can’t do our jobs well. Our physical, emotional, and spiritual health are critical to the team. We need to take care of our bodies, our relationships, and our souls.

We will model generosity

Generosity shows that we understand God’s generosity towards us and enables us to have proper priorities in our lives. God should not get our leftovers, He should get the best of us. We know things can’t be right with God if we aren’t practicing generosity in our daily life. We will model this by giving our money, time and talents.

We will stay current

It is important to be aware of what is happening in culture. We can’t bring the life giving message of Jesus into the world if we don’t have any connections to it. We want to be a part of the fabric of the community around us.

We will be willing to put our preferences aside to reach more people

Each one of us will like things a certain way and that is completely acceptable. However, our main job is to help connect as many people as we can to the life giving message of Jesus. If that means going against what we prefer, then we need to be all for it.

We will be loyal to each other

We need to be each other’s biggest fans. We buy into what our vision is, work together to accomplish our mission, and never forget our purpose. We critique privately and rave publicly. We will only be as strong as our loyalty and commitment to each other.

We will recognize it's not about us.

One of the most important things we can do is build up, train, and empower our team. We need to be a team of people who value honor and encourage all who work with us. The best leaders are always the most humble.

We will be willing to fail

If we aren’t taking risks, then we are missing out on what God can do. A fear of failure is an indication of our lack of faith. We can choose to take risks and learn from our mistakes.
