COUNSELING
AT HILL CITY

We are big believers that everyone can benefit from some sort of counseling.

Whether you're currently processing something difficult or you're ready to work through past traumas, relational barriers, or roadblocks in your faith, talking to someone and being asked the right questions can be what leads to healing. Here at Hill City, we offer pastoral and Christian counseling as well as Spiritual Direction for individuals, couples, and families.

Everyone's needs are different and our goal is to connect you with the care you need.

For many of us, a more clinical approach to our care is necessary. While we don’t offer clinical therapy, we offer a free consultation where you and your counselor will assess your needs, set goals, and figure out which path is best for you moving forward. Our counseling ministry works with a rich network of clinical therapists that we can refer you to should you and your counselor decide that is your next best step.

What others have shared—

  • “What do you say about someone that has changed your life? I have met with many counselors over the years and never have I felt so seen and understood. Matt knows how to ask the right questions and makes me feel at ease. He listens intently without any judgement or shame and creates a safe environment to share your deepest struggles. I have learned how to process old hurt and trauma in a new way. I feel like I have shed a weight I have been carrying on my shoulders for 20 years.”

    — Lindsay C.

  • "When my mind and soul are racing like a cartoonish Tasmanian Devil, Matt is able to stop it on a dime and help me make sense of the mess. Matt can take my constant forward energy that frequently burns too hot and direct it somewhere soothing. And it’s all done in a way that makes me feel grounded, seen, loved and understood- not just by him but by God.

I think, most often, we are afraid to sit with the people who can see us- who can walk in step with our disjointed rhythm and who can flip back to our Chapter 1; able to read our invisible ink. There’s something intimidating about having our natural frequency met- perhaps we are afraid we will crumble, like bridges do.

Matt makes this part of life feel safe. He makes it feel vital and beautiful. Sit with him, even if it’s in silence."

    — J.B.

  • “Matt is a compassionate person with an innate ability to listen actively. He will always offer advice, but it is never cliche or unimaginative— it is always based on the information the client is sharing. I’ve been to several therapists in my life and, surprisingly, the ability to listen and offer personalized help did not seem like a prerequisite for many of them. Matt is different: he actually hears you.”

    — Michael H.

  • “Matt is very approachable and is a great listener. Matt often takes an intellectual approach and he encourages me to look at things through different lenses. He is also always ready with a relevant resource, like a book or podcast, that might shed additional insight on a line of thinking. Matt has become a trusted partner on my road to continually better mental health, and I can’t recommend him enough.”
