Good question! Sort of yes, sort of no. The groups are small, and you do grow in community together. We read and study scripture, but we also read books about our faith. We pray together. We get chances to eat together. We laugh together and walk alongside each other encouraging one another through whatever life brings. We take in and reflect on content before we meet (an hour or two per week), so that our time together can be spent really digging into the topics.
-
Another great question! Sort of, yes! Each group has its own vibe - some are all in-person, some are hybrid and use zoom occasionally but also meet in person, and a few are Zoom only. We know, we know. But we can use technology to our advantage as long as it doesn’t become a crutch that prevents us from true connection.
You'll be able to choose the group type through registrations as they are clearly labeled!

The Welcome Week is Sept 15th!
Our typical group meeting times are Mon, Tues, or Wed 7:00-8:30 PM, but there are groups that will meet at some alternative times – morning, lunch etc. Find out more through registration here! -
There is not a specific order you HAVE to take tracks in, and you can take them each multiple times if you’d like-- each track can fit better for certain stages of faith.
For example, if you’re brand new to faith, your best fit is Exploring! If you have a strong faith foundation, then any of them could come first, but choose the one that fits best with the area you want to grow in.
Here is one way to group the tracks –
New + Returning
Exploring, Cultivating, or Building (revamped!)
Committed + Curious
Connecting, Aligning, or Fighting (must take Aligning first)
Salt + Light
Thinking or Compelling (formerly Multiplying)
Take the quiz for a personalized recommendation.
Still can’t decide? Stop by the spotlight in the breezeway on Sunday to talk to a real live human. Or you can email rachel@hillcityrva.com…another real live person! -
You'll have a group of about 6-8 people including coaches! We are very intentional about ensuring groups are intergenerational, because there is so much we can learn from each other in all different stages of life. There is no other space like it…oh wait! Heaven.
Some tracks are co-ed.
Semester Tracks | Exploring + Cultivating
Full Tracks | Building, Thinking, + Compelling
Some tracks are same-gender.

The tracks are led by a track memory verse that sets the course of study. There are multiple sessions that are separate, yet related studies across the track.
Each week there is an essential question that we respond to with scripture and then we fill in the discussion with what we have been learning from other sources.
The resources are intentionally curated for us to stay curious. They include a diverse range of voices from inside and outside of our community.
In each track, there is -
at least 1 book study
reading + discussion of scripture
videos or podcasts created with members of the Hill City or larger Richmond community
often you will encounter BibleProject resources too!
-
$25 - Semester Tracks | 4 months
$50 - Full Tracks | 8 months
You will receive a custom printed HC Discipleship Journal, the book(s) for the track, access to the online Discipleship “Hub” and some fun surprise goodies. The registration fee helps to offset the cost of the program.
Scholarships are available and donations are more than welcome! Email rachel@hillcityrva.com for questions.
